For low–income families, with a child graduating from high school is an exciting time, but, that excitement is painful when that child is eligible for college has to face entry with no support from a single mother who does not have the money to help her child move in to his or her dorm. Tri-Coastal implemented Successful Start to helps families in cases as described above. Students are given supplies needed in setting up a dorm room for the first time. In return, students are required to commit 20 hours of community service at a non-profit of their choice. The volunteer hours must be completed with the first two years of their college tender.
